NARA’s 22nd Annual Records Administration Conference (RACO 2010)

Today’s post comes to us from Susan Cummings, Deputy Director of Modern Records Programs

As we launch Records Express, we can’t forget the reason we started it in 2009 – to announce andshare updates about our annual Records Administration Conference – RACO!

The theme for RACO 2010 here in DC on May 12th, as well as RACO Chicago in August, is “Managing the Records of an Open Government.” Good records management is the backbone of a transparent and accountable government and we are building a great program focused on the records management issues presented by the Open Government Directive and how our agency presenters addressed them.We also have our fingers crossed for confirmation of a very special keynote speaker. Stay tuned for that announcement and more details about the program.

Submit your nominations by April 2nd!

One of the highlights of RACO is the presentation of the Archivist Achievement Awards. These awards recognize Federal agencies who have achieved some notable success in their records management programs or activities that have significantly benefited the agency as a whole. This year the awards will be presented by our new Archivist, David S. Ferriero, during the luncheon program.

Last year we recognized 4 Federal agencies with awards: Bureau of Reclamation, EPA, Marine Corps, and National Reconnaissance Office. The kicker is EPA got two awards!

Do you think your program belongs in this company? Send in your nomination- it’s easy.Follow the simple instructions found in our Memo to Records Officers (NWM 11.2010).

The nominations are reviewed by three NARA offices: the Life Cycle Management Division – the NARA records management staff who work most closely with the agencies; my office – the Modern Records Programs; the Policy and Planning Staff; and the final selection made by the Archivist of the United States.

We will be looking for your nominations!
