We are pleased to announce that NARA Bulletin 2011-02 has just been issued. This bulletin provides guidance on managing Federal records produced when agencies use web 2.0/social media platforms. Open and transparent government increasingly relies on the use of these technologies and as agencies adopt these tools, they must be aware of and comply with all records management laws, regulations, and policies.
The bulletin has been posted to our website at http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/bulletins/2011/2011-02.html. Also, http://go.usa.gov/aUJ is the shortened link.
NARA bulletins are designed to provide fundamental guidance to Federal agencies who must then determine the most appropriate ways to incorporate the guidance into their work. This bulletin was written from feedback garnered during the preparation of the recently issued NARA web study as well as discussions with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the Federal Records Council and the Social Media Subcouncil of the Federal Web Managers Council. We thank all of them for their input.
