We have been posting updates on the status of our ongoing appraisal of Department of the Interior’s proposed big-bucket records schedule. Now that the period for public comment has closed, we would like to provide an update on the next steps in this process.
First, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to review the schedule and submit a comment. The public comment period is a valuable part of our appraisal process. We use these comments to further inform the appraisal of the records and identify proposed dispositions which may require further review and potential changes.
We received over 12,000 individual comments on this proposed schedule. We are now in the process of analyzing the comments and developing a framework for our full response. We expect this process to take several months as we will need to consult internal and external stakeholders, including our records management contacts at the Department of Interior. We will continue to use our blog to update our progress on this records schedule and anticipate publishing our full response to the comments on the Federal Register.
