Regulations with Digitization Standards for Temporary Records Issued

On April 10, 2019, we published on the Federal Register, the revised electronic records management regulation (final rule) found for 36 CFR Chapter XII, Subchapter B, Part 1236, Subpart D – Digitizing Temporary Federal Records.

This regulation will be effective on May 10, 2019. It provides standards for digitizing and validating temporary Federal records to allow agencies to dispose of original source records according to a NARA-approved disposition authority.

We also posted an FAQ with additional information and context about this regulation.

Lisa Haralampus, Director of Records Management Policy and Outreach, delivered a presentation about this regulation at the BRIDG meeting on April 15, 2019. This presentation is available below.

  1. For a facility that cannot even get an IT person or funding for storage medium, this is not reasonable. I am so underfunded, it’s silly, plus I am fighting a culture that says records are not important, just get by.

    1. Sad. I have an IT background and with the Records Profession in my country, Ghana. And yes, records management is considered the least important. Thought I was the only person on planet earth with that feeling.
