NARA is happy to announce an updated resource for records scheduling and appraisal. We have revised the Guide to Inventorying, Scheduling, and Disposition of Federal Records, the handbook on scheduling and appraisal of federal records. The new guide better reflects current practices associated with electronic recordkeeping. It also includes many new job aids to help agencies as they work through the record scheduling and appraisal process.
As part of the new guide, we are also issuing the following products:
- Guide to Aggregate Item Schedules (also known as Big Buckets or functional schedules)
- Guide to Machine-Implementable Disposition Instructions
- Scheduling Guide 9: Scheduling Records in Electronic Systems
Over the next seven weeks we have a series of posts highlighting content in the new Guide to Inventorying, Scheduling, and Disposition of Federal Records, so please look for those posts!
If you have any questions, please contact your agency’s assigned appraiser.
This is fantastic news! An improved guide for such vital federal record management processes is incredibly welcome. Excited to see the enhancements for inventorying, scheduling, and disposition – this will be a huge asset!
